Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Quinlan is responsible for all operations and the strategic growth and development of the Health System. Dr. Quinlan joined the Foundation in 1998 as Chief Medical Officer and in 2001, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ochsner Health System. Before joining the Foundation, Dr. Quinlan served as Chief Medical Officer of Lovelace Health Systems in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Dr. Quinlan completed his internship at Carraway Methodist Center in Birmingham, Alabama and a dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is Board Certified in Dermatology. He earned a Masters degree in Health Administration from the College of St. Francis in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In May 2007, Dr. Quinlan was named the #1 most powerful physician executive in the nation by Modern Physician magazine. This honor is part of the magazine’s third annual ranking of the “50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare.” Previously, he ranked No. 10 in the 2006 poll and No. 43 in 2005. Quinlan was also voted a Healthcare Hero in May 2007 by New Orleans City Business Magazine. Ochsner’s Leadership Team also received the Top Leadership award in 2006 from HealthLeaders Magazine.

Ochsner is a seven-hospital, non-profit, academic, multi-specialty, healthcare delivery system dedicated to patient care, research and education. The system also includes a sub-acute facility, and over 35 health centers located throughout Southeast Louisiana. Ochsner employs over 600 physicians in 80 medical specialties and subspecialties and conducts over 300 ongoing clinical research trials annually.

Additionally, Ochsner operates one of the country’s largest, independently accredited graduate medical education programs, offering training to over 200 interns, residents and fellows in 17 independently Ochsner-sponsored programs. Ochsner jointly sponsors 4 programs with LSU and Tulane offering training to an additional 100 residents. An additional 20 plus residency and fellowship programs are affiliated with Ochsner Health System for training with over 300 discrete residents (60 scheduled FTEs) registered and scheduled with Ochsner for training in their chosen specialty; Also, approximately 500 unique medical students complete over 700 student months of training at Ochsner for core 3rd and 4th year elective training.
