Richard D. Guthrie, Jr., M.D., C.P.E., is Medical Director of Ochsner Health System, New Orleans Region. As Medical Director, Guthrie oversees the physician group and is responsible for physician recruitment and professional affairs in the greater New Orleans area. The New Orleans region consists of three hospitals and nine clinics, with 513 physicians providing care in more than 70 medical specialties.

Dr. Guthrie was named New Orleans Medical Director in 1999. He had previously served on the internal medicine staff, becoming chairman of the General Internal Medicine department in New Orleans in 1995. He also served on the Ochsner Clinic Board of Governors from 1996-1998.

Dr. Guthrie earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Orleans, summa cum laude, and graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School, Alpha Omega Alpha, in 1986. Dr. Guthrie received his internal medicine training, including residency and chief residency, at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation.
