Executive Vice President for System Medical Affairs and Chief Academic Officer
William W. Pinsky, M.D. is Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Ochsner Health System. Dr. Pinsky also serves as a professor at the University of Queensland School of Medicine, as well as the head of the Ochsner Clinical School, University of Queensland.
Prior to joining Ochsner in 1999, Dr. Pinsky's career had been university based in an academic career in Pediatric Cardiology. Pinsky was Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at Wayne State University and Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer for the Detroit Medical Center. Prior positions at the Detroit Medical Center included President of Coordinated Healthcare (the managed care subsidiary responsible for all managed care activities at the Medical Center), Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs, President of the Ambulatory Division, and Chief Executive of Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Pinsky was also Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Children's Hospital of Michigan and Tulane University School of Medicine. He served on the faculty in the departments of Pediatrics and sections of Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and University of Nebraska.
Dr. Pinsky received his M.D. at St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1973, and served a residency in Pediatrics and a post-doctoral fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital.
Dr. Pinsky has been prominent nationally in his specialty, having served as Chair of the Pediatric Cardiology Section of the American College of Cardiology and on the Executive Committee of the Cardiology Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He has received many honors including the Gerald Matthew Gay Memorial Award from the American Heart Association and presented the William Rashkind Memorial Lecturer at the Annual Meeting of the American Heart Association. He has been a noted researcher, primarily in the area of sub-cellular function in the ischemic myocardium and the effects of chronic volume overload.
Dr. Pinsky is a past- President of the Alliance of Academic Independent Medical Centers. He also served on the Board of the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education. Currently he is a member of the Health Professions Workforce Board Committee of the American Hospital Association and the Board of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Pinsky is the President and Founder of the Racing for Kids Foundation - a 501C (3) organization that utilizes professional motor sports to promote the healthcare needs of children and children's hospitals.
