Hiring Process

Ochsner Health System prides itself on having a thorough selection process in order to identify the very best candidates for our open positions. We do ask that you frequently refer to your e-mail throughout the selection process, as this will be our primary mode of communication. Ochsner has one dedicated Leadership Recruiter who will work with candidates throughout the entire hiring process.

Application Process:

Our application process is as follows:

  1. Our application process begins with the candidate completing a profile through our Careers web site, www.ochsner.org/careers, which is then entered into our applicant tracking system.Candidates may personalize their profiles by uploading resumes and cover letters and filling out applications for specific positions. Candidates will also have the opportunity to complete the Development Dimensions International (DDI) Health Care Leader Career Battery (HCLCB) assessment as part of the application process.

  2. Our Leadership Recruiter will contact the top five candidates for each position for a brief (15-20 minutes) pre-screen phone call. This call will give the recruiter insight into your background, career goals, and salary requirements.

  3. Top candidates who are selected by the Leadership Recruiter to interview with the department will be asked to complete a second leadership assessment, the Healthcare Leader Inventory (HLI). This assessment is completed through a separate website, and the Leadership Coordinator will e-mail instructions to the candidates.

  4. Top candidates who are selected by the Leadership Recruiter to interview with the department will also be asked to enter their references into Skill Survey, our automated reference checking system. The candidate will receive an e-mail from the system asking them to enter their reference information. The system will then send an e-mail to the references asking them to complete a brief survey that is customized for the specific position regarding the candidate’s skills. The reference process is kept highly confidential, and Ochsner does not receive the results until at least three references have responded. We receive an aggregate report of all references to ensure reference confidentiality.

Interview Process:

Our Leadership HR Coordinator is responsible for all scheduling throughout the interview process. Our leadership interview process is as follows:

  1. Initial phone screen with the Leadership Recruiter, as described in the Application Process.

  2. Initial phone screen with the Hiring Manager, typically lasting 30 minutes to one hour. For out-of-town candidates, more than one phone screen may be required.

  3. Pre-recorded Virtual Interview through our online interviewing tool. This is an interview of five questions specifically related to the position for which the candidate is being considered. The candidate will receive a link to complete the virtual interview through e-mail and will need a web cam in order to do so. Should the candidate not have access to a web cam, Ochsner will provide one at no cost to the candidate. The interview takes ten minutes to complete and should be treated the same as any other job interview. Once completed, the pre-recorded interview will be sent to the Leadership Recruiter.

  4. On-site interviews with the Hiring Manager, HR Manager, Leadership Recruiter, Executive Team, department leaders, and physician leaders.  Additional staff may be included, depending on the position. The Leadership HR Coordinator will facilitate any travel and accommodations associated with the interview for out-of-town candidates. Ochsner will cover the cost of travel and accommodations associated with the interview.

New Hire Process:

Our new hire process is as follows:

  1. Once the interview process is completed and a candidate has been identified as a top candidate, the Leadership Recruiter will partner with the Compensation department, HR Leader, and Hiring Manager to create a compensation package. Please review our Compensation page for how the package is determined. All salary offers are specific to the candidate and their work history and educational background. Internal salary equity is of the utmost importance to Ochsner and will be the first consideration within any offer of compensation.

  2. Once the candidate accepts an offer, the Leadership Recruiter will e-mail the offer letter and specifics regarding the offer to the candidate. Upon acceptance of the offer, the Leadership Recruiter will work with the New Hire to determine a start date.

  3. All new hires are required to complete a background check, new hire paperwork, and an Employee Health screen prior to New Employee Orientation. All offers are conditional upon successful completion of these requirements.

    1. Background Check: Ochsner utilizes an external vendor, Hire Right, to screen for criminal background, educational requirements, and employment/salary verification. New hires will receive an e-mail from Hire Right asking for specific information to begin the background check. Background checks typically take about 7-10 days to clear.

    2. New Hire Paperwork: All new employees are required to complete I-9 documentation, state and federal tax forms, and other important documents, as well as provide appropriate identification (including a social security card for tax purposes) and certification information prior to their start date. New employees will also take an employee identification badge photo during this appointment. The Leadership Recruiter and/or HR Coordinator will send new employees all appropriate forms prior to the appointment and answer any questions regarding appropriate documentation and identification.

    3. Employee Health Screen: All new employees must submit to a drug screen, TB skin test, and blood work prior to New Employee Orientation. The blood work does not require fasting and is only used to determine whether a new employee is up to date on immunizations. For new employees who are out-of-town, this process can be completed remotely.
