- Complex surgical patients

- Left Ventricular Device (LVAD)
- Artificial Hearts
- Large Abdominal surgeries
- Complex cardiac patients (Impella device, Adult ECMO)
- And other complex medical patients.
Critical Care Areas:
Neurology and Neuro-Critical Care
Ochsner is a certified Primary Stroke Center with interventional/vascular neurology services, epilepsy monitoring, and an active telemedicine program.
Medical Intensive Care
The Medical Intensive Care team manages patients in the acute phase of critical illness, including patients with multisystem organ failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The team is recognized as a national leader in sepsis management.
Interventional Cardiology & Cardiac Care
Ochsner has an active Interventional Cardiology team that specializes in acute coronary syndromes, therapeutic hypothermia and short-term ventricular devices.
Surgical/Transplant/Cardiothoracic Intensive Care
The Surgical teams take care of multiple surgical specialties including lung, heart, liver, and kidney transplant and complex cardiothoracic surgeries including long-term Ventricular Assist Device implantation (Joint Commission Certified program).
Ochsner was recently named as the top hospital in the nation for liver transplants in 2013 by CareChex.
Ochsner’s state-of-the-art eICU Program connects Ochsner’s bedside care teams with off-site critical care physicians and nurses using advanced software and continuous remote monitoring technology.
How it works: The software detects and advises clinicians of important trends and changes in a patient’s condition to enable proactive bedside patient care. Use of 2-way audio-video capability allows the off-site critical care nurse and physician to interact directly with the bedside medical team to assist in making important, time sensitive patient care decisions.
As Louisiana’s only health care provider with an eICU program, Ochsner is proud to serve as a regional resource for community and rural hospitals.
