Brownie Girl Scouts Earn their Home Scientist Badges at Ochsner
(April 22, 2013) On Saturday, April 13, Academic Community Outreach hosted the fourth annual Brownies Science in Action! Day at OMC - Kenner. A total of 51 Brownie Girl Scouts from the New Orleans area completed four experiments and one group activity with the help of 17 Ochsner employee volunteers from throughout the system. Power Ties 2013 Introduces 8th Graders to Healthcare Careers
(March 5, 2013) On Thursday, February 28, Ochsner’s Academic Outreach office held its Seventh Annual Power Ties Event, this year at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center. With partners New Orleans Outreach, the Junior League of New Orleans, and Samuel J. 2013 SACNAS National Conference to Be Held in October
(February 13, 2013) Join over 3,700 attendees for four days of scientific research presentations, professional development, networking, exhibits, culture, and community! Programming is specifically tailored to support undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and career professionals at each transition stage of their career as they move towards positions of science leadership. STAR Wraps up Its Sixth Year
(July 25, 2012) The 6th year of the STAR (Science, Technology, Academics, and Research) program, supported by Ochsner’s Academic Division, concluded on July 17. STAR Week 5: Job Shadows
(July 16, 2012) The highlight of STAR week 5 was undoubtedly the job shadow opportunities. The students choose a medical specialty of interest and shadowed a physician in that specialty for 3 hours. Click here to read the full story
STAR Week 4: Surgical Rotation
(July 9, 2012) With only two weeks of the STAR program to go, the students are ready to finish strong. This week’s highlight was undoubtedly the surgical rotation when the students witnessed a surgery performed with the state-of-the-art DaVinci robot. STAR Week 2: Hands-on Rotations
(June 25, 2012) The second week of STAR kicked off with informative and hands-on rotations. The students were introduced to basic medical terminology, executive academic and research administration, flight care, graduate medical education, psychiatry, neurosurgery, medical illustration, internal medicine, labor and delivery/maternal fetal medicine, and the neonatal intensive care unit. The students were introduced to allied health professions, FBI cell phone and internet safety, pediatrics/craniofacial surgery, the cancer center, The University of Queensland, the medical library and archives, radiation oncology, and team building.
