Choose Healthy

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Louisiana is the 7th most obese state in the U.S., with 1/3rd of all residents considered medically obese. To combat this, Ochsner and Rouses have teamed up to educate people about the benefits of smart food and lifestyle choices, disease prevention and regular medical checkups through its partnered initiative, Choose Healthy.

Through Choose Healthy, Rouses customers will find healthy, Ochsner-endorsed eating recommendations on every aisle of their market and be able to take advantage of Ochsner education programs and materials and free health screenings. The idea is to give people access to information at the point of decision making – while they are deciding what to eat. In addition to the in-store activities, customers will also be able to access recipes and information on smart food choices, proper meal planning and disease-specific diet alternatives at choose-healthy.org.  This program is available at all Rouses locations throughout southeast Louisiana.   Learn more about the partnership between Ochsner and Rouses and how it can get you healthier.

Hello Health

Hello Health is a healthcare seminar series for the community. Reaching across all of Ochsner's service areas, local experts, including Ochsner and other community physicians, discuss relevant and important health topics. Some examples of past presentations include cancer treatments, nutrition and stress reduction. The seminars offer participants a chance to learn about these various medical topics as well as ask whatever questions they may have. These seminars are open to the public and are taped at a local venue and aired on WLAE-TV. In addition, the videos of previous Hello Health seminars are available for free here.

Ochsner’s Medical Library

Ochsner Medical Library provides a variety of services for its patrons both inside and outside of the library. The library holds a collection of medical resources and other types of nonfiction and fiction for its patients, their family members and guests. The library also holds training sessions on and off site to teach users how to find and evaluate medical information available on the Internet. In addition to housing thousands of resources and answering reference questions in a traditional library setting, the Ochsner Medical Library actively brings its resources out to its patients and the community. Librarians also round the hospital with a notebook laptop computer and offer the "Outreach Express" service for patients who are in the hospital and have questions about their diagnosis, treatment or other issues.
