Abbas Abbas

Dr. Abbas graduated with honors from Medical School at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his surgical residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, University of Pennsylvania where he also served as Chief Surgical Resident. During this time he completed two post-doctoral research fellowships in both artificial cardiac support (at Penn State University) and gene therapy (at University of Pennsylvania). He then went on to complete a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Abbas is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is also a member of multiple professional societies including:

  • the Society of Thoracic Surgeons
  • the General Thoracic Surgery Club
  • the Cancer and Leukemia Group-B
  • the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.

Dr. Abbas is board-certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed papers and presented his work at both national and international meetings. His expertise includes thoracic surgical oncology, diseases of the esophagus, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, advanced bronchoscopic and esophageal endoscopy, lung volume reduction surgery, and surgery for mediastinal disease.
