Specialties Offered

Arthur Molina III M.D. has joined the Ochsner Health System, Ochsner Cancer Insitute and the Department of Hematology and Oncology as the Director of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Hematological Malignancies. Dr Molina’s expertise covers a broad array of malignancies of the blood and bone marrow. These include multiple myeloma, lymphoma, leukemia, myelodysplastic disorders, myeloproliferative disorders and other blood related diseases. His experience in the treatment of these diseases ranges from initial evaluation and treatment with chemotherapy to more advanced treatments such as bone marrow transplantation and immunotherapy.

He has been involved in the development of clinical trials that target blood based cancers throughout his career. Dr. Molina conducted his fellowship training at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the world’s leading center for bone marrow transplantation, under the mentorship of Dr. Rainer Storb one of the founders of the field. At the Hutchinson Center, Dr. Molina was a principal investigator on several research trials and co-authored peer-reviewed papers within the expanding area of non-myeloablative bone marrow transplantation. These non-ablative or “mini” bone marrow transplants reduce the toxicity of traditional bone marrow transplants sufficiently to allow for this procedure to be done as an outpatient and to include older patients. Dr. Molina has presented his research findings at various scientific meetings in the United States and Europe.

Prior to joining Ochsner, Dr. Molina was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center and on staff at the Baylor University Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. Dr. Molina is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Molina will oversee the development and implementation of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Ochsner Medical Center, a joint venture between LSU Medical School and the Ochsner Clinic Foundation.
