Brian L. Pettiford

 Dr. Pettiford is a native of Tifton, GA.  He is an honor’s graduate of Morehouse College where he obtained a BS in Biology.  He received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine where he continued his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery training.  During his surgical residency, Dr. Pettiford was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He was also commissioned in the United States Navy Reserve Medical Corps as a Lieutenant.  He later received an honorable discharge in 2006 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

 After a year in private practice, Dr. Pettiford served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from 2005-2009.  Prior to joining the Ochsner Health System, he was employed by the Wellspan Health System as a cardiothoracic surgeon.  Dr. Pettiford is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and  the Society of Surgical Oncology. He holds membership in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society. He has authored or coauthored over 40 journal articles and book chapters.  Dr. Pettiford's interests include the minimally invasive management of lung cancer and other benign and malignant diseases of the lung.  He also has extensive experience in the treatment of esophageal cancer and benign esophageal conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux and achalsia of the esophagus.

Anatomic Sublobar Lung Resection, Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery, Benign and malignant lung disease, esophageal cancer management, minimally invasive surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux and achalasia of the esophagus, paraesophageal hernia, mesothelioma, mediastinal tumors and myasthenia gravis, interventional bronchoscopy and esophagoscopy for the management of obstructing airway and esophageal tumors.
