Dr. Mello graduated from Yale University and attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree. He remained at the University of Connecticut and he completed a five year general surgery residency. Dr. Mello then completed a two year cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Under the leadership of Drs. Hanley and Reddy, he remained at the University of California, San Francisco where he completed an additional two year fellowship in pediatric and congential cardiac surgery. Dr. Mello was the Director of Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery at The Connecticut Children's Medical Center and a staff surgeon at Yale New Haven Hospital for nine years. Dr. Mello is board certified in general and cardiothoracic surgery. His areas of expertise include pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery.
