Dr. Eve Scopelitis, former Professor of Medicine and Director of the Rheumatology Clinics at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, joined the Department of Rheumatology at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in 2006.

Dr. Scopelitis, a native of New York City, obtained her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, and completed an internal medicine residency at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. A fellowship in Rheumatology at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans followed.  At the completion of her fellowship, she was invited to join the faculty.

Over the years, she has been involved in numerous academic endeavors including research, teaching, and patient care. She has been the recipient of many grants and awards, including the prestigious National Arthritis Foundation Fellowship award. Her publications have spanned the spectrum of rheumatology and have included topics such as systemic lupus erythematosus and other connective tissue diseases, gout, and osteoporosis, among others.  In recent years she was successful in establishing the LSU Distinguished Women in Medicine Visiting Professorship, as well as the annual LSU Women in Medicine Symposium. She has been voted among the best doctors in Louisiana yearly since 2006.

Dr. Scopelitis is past-president of the Louisiana branch of the American Medical Women’s Association and the Louisiana Rheumatism Society. She has been on the medical advisory board of the Louisiana Lupus Foundation and the Spondylitis Association of America. She is a Founding Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of Rheumatology, and by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.

Her practice is currently located at Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway in New Orleans.
