Dr. Fuhrman started his practice at Ochsner in 1994, served as Section Head of General Surgery, Director of the Tansey Breast Center and Residency Program Director for Surgery. From 2006 - 2012, he served as Director of Graduate Medical Education and Program Director for Surgery at Atlanta Medical Center. Dr. Fuhrman returned to Ochsner in April 2012. He has served as President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery, Vice President of the Southeastern Surgical Congress and is a Governor of the American College of Surgeons. He has authored 71 peer reviewed journal articles and was Editor of the acclaimed M.D. Anderson Handbook for Surgical Oncology. Dr. Fuhrman's interest in education extends to patient care as his practice management philosophy includes patient involvement in decision making. He is available for telephone consultation from outside physicians that might want to discuss cases or arrange referrals.
