Dr. Kann received his undergraduate degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1993.  He received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1997. 

Following medical school he completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Cooper University Hospital (UMDNJ-RWJMS) in Camden, NJ, including a 1 year research fellowship that focused on transplant immunology and composite tissue transplantation.  He then completed his residency in colon and rectal surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA.  

In 2004, following his training in New Orleans, he returned to join the faculty at Cooper University Hospital.  While at Cooper University Hospital, he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, and served as Associate Program Director for the general surgery residency program for several years before assuming the role of Program Director.  In 2010, he moved to the University Of Pennsylvania Perelman School Of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery, Program Director of Penn’s Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency Program, and Chief of the Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.  

He is active in number of committees in the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Program Directors in Colon & Rectal Surgery.  He is board certified in both General Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery.  His clinical interests include minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery, colon and rectal cancer, and inflammatory bowel disease.
