Lionel Head earned his medical degree from LSU. He competed his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital in Pennsylvania and completed his residency and at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He completed his gastrointestinal fellowship training at Stanford Medical Center in Stanford, California. Dr. Head has been on staff at Ochsner since 1969 where he has served as a staff physician in the Section on Gastroenterology as well as acting director of the Gastrointestinal Service from 1992 to 1994. Dr. Head has a special interest in diarrheal diseases and malabsorption.
