Melanie Weaver earned her nursing degree at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1981. After 16 years in maternal-child nursing-labor and delivery service, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, Ms. Weaver obtained her certificate in nurse midwifery from Frontier School of Midwifery in 1999 and Master's of Science in nursing also in 1999 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Ms. Weaver began the first hospital based midwifery practice in South Louisiana in 1999 and started the first in hospital water birth program in the state as well. Ms. Weaver remains passionate about choice in birthing options. She is a member of the AWHONN and the American College of Nurse Midwives and has beeen a CNM for 12 years.
