Michael Bates

Dr. Bates received his Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical  School in Norfolk, Va.  He completed his Residency in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery with Ochsner Clinic Foundation. Additionally, Dr. Bates completed a fellowship in Heart Failure and Thoracic Transplantation at Stanford University.  Dr. Bates is board certified with the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.  He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant, and the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association.

Dr. Bates' clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, mitral valve repair, coronary surgery, aortic surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, thoracic transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, transmyocardial revascularzation (TMR), and surgery for atrial fibrilation.
