Dr. Ducos received his medical degree from the University of Chile and completed his pediatric training at Calvo Mackenna Childrens Hospital in Santiago, Chile. He completed his pediatric hematology-oncology training at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and Children's Hospital of St Louis. Dr. Ducos is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology. He has worked as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist in New Orleans since 1976, first as the Head of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Section at LSU Medical Center and Children's Hospital. He has been on staff at Ochsner since 1988. Dr. Ducos pioneered the enrollment of children with cancer in multidisciplinary treatment protocols. He brought to Louisiana the National Institutes of Health's Pediatric Oncology Group, later on called Children's Oncology Group (COG). This national consortium of leading academic centers and hospitals is devoted to the development of treatment strategies for the cure of pediatric cancer. Dr. Ducos' primary interest is the evaluation and treatment of children with cancer and blood disorders. He believes that, until a definitive cure is achieved, the best treatment of cancer goes hand in hand with clinical research.'
