Ochsner Health System has grown to become the largest healthcare system in the region with over 8,000 employees, including 600 physicians in 80 medical specialties and subspecialties. Ochsner conducts 700 ongoing clinical research trials annually, and was ranked "The Best Place to Work in New Orleans" in 2005 and 2006.
Ochsner's holdings include seven hospitals total as well as a sub-acute facility and 33 neighborhood health centers throughout South Louisiana; medical centers in Kenner, the West Bank, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Raceland, LA; and its Elmwood Fitness Center, a 20,000-member, state-of-the-art gym/wellness facility.

Ochsner is a national leader in medical research with 700 ongoing research trials, and 200 annual publications in medical literature. It is one of the largest non-university based physician training centers in the nation with over 375 medical residents, over 600 medical student months, and 400 allied health students in 2006.

In 1939, Dr. Alton Ochsner discovered the link between tobacco and lung cancer. He continued his legacy in 1942 when he, along with four physicians, established Ochsner, the first multi-specialty group practice in the South. |
