Ochsner Baptist Medical Center, formerly Baptist Hospital, has a deep-rooted history in Uptown New Orleans. Since 1926, generations of New Orleanians have chosen to have their babies here. Though the hospital was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, Ochsner Baptist is committed to providing the community with the same quality medical services they have for the last 80 years. The hospital, located at 2626 Napoleon Avenue, is a fully accredited facility with more than 250 community physicians on staff. Currently Ochsner Baptist operates:
- 43 medical/surgical beds (all private)
- 12 bed intensive care unit
- 6 operating rooms
- 2 cardiac catheterization labs
- 2 endoscopy suites
With the additions made over the past two years, Ochsner Baptist is capable of handling virtually all medical and surgical cases, with the exception of trauma, obstetrics, and open-heart and neurological surgery. Additionally, in November 2007, the facility opened up a $10 million, 22,000 square foot Imaging Center at 2820 Napoleon Avenue. Ochsner Baptist Imaging Center offers the latest state-of-the-art equipment, including a 64-slice CT machine, MRI, Ultrasound, Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine and Echo Cardiology testing. In addition, a Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) has been installed, allowing physicians to view patient images in their offices and throughout the hospital, including our operating rooms. On January 12, 2009, Ochsner Baptist Medical Center and the community celebrated the opening of its full-service Emergency Room and a 43 all-private room hospital wing at 2700 Napoleon Avenue in Uptown New Orleans. This additional $12 million investment includes an expand ICU from three to 12 beds and is in addition to the more than $20 million to re-open 22 medical/surgical beds, two endoscopy suites and the Imaging Center in 2006 and 2007. Following the guided tours, the ER officially opened for patient care at 11:00am. Emergency services have not been available at the Ochsner Baptist campus since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Also, construction will begin in the near future on a Senior Living Center in the former main hospital building.
