Ochsner announces our newest addition: the Family Birthing Center at Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge.
The hospital's fourth floor is entirely dedicated to mothers and babies and includes:
- 6 large birthing rooms
- 2 nearby operating rooms
- 2 suites with built-in birthing tubs
- 14 patient rooms
- All private rooms
- Level-3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with a "starlight" ceiling
- 4 observation rooms
- Family waiting rooms for Labor and Delivery and NICU
Rooms are twice the size of normal hospital rooms to create the experience of home for mother and baby.
The Family Birthing Center is staffed by a team of board-certified OB/GYN physicians, plus a collaborative midwifery practice of certified nurse midwives. Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge is the only hospital in the area to offer a midwifery program to its patients and provides a number of alternative birthing options.
Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge received the Golden GIFT Breastfeeding Award in recognition of its GIFT certification. The Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition and the Louisiana Office of Public Health-Maternal and Child Health Program awards GIFT certification to those birthing centers which demonstrate a commitment to breastfeeding through hospital-wide policies that support, promote and protect breastfeeding as the preferred and normal method of infant feeding.
