Transferring a critical patient for a higher level of care, time is extremely important. At Ochsner Medical Center, our Regional Referral Center is designed to eliminate the barriers associated with making patient transfers complicated and untimely, allowing for a faster and more efficient patient transfer.
The Ochsner Medical Center Regional Referral Center was created with your patient transfer needs in mind and is a one-stop-shop for your patients who require specialized care. We have developed a streamlined process with Registered Nurse Administrative Coordinators available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to facilitate the transfer process with one call. Our team will work directly with a member of your Emergency Department or Inpatient Staff to accept and register your patient timely and appropriately. They will confirm bed assignment and then work with you to facilitate transportation options that best fit your patient's needs.
Our Flight Care team is dedicated to airlifting and transporting patients in an expedient manner. High-level staff inclusive of physicians (including pediatric intensivists), nurse practitioners as well as Registered Nurses, and other allied health professionals will ensure a safe and efficient air transport. The helicopters and fixed-wing aircrafts are equipped for both pediatric (including NICU and PICU) and adult patients.
We have established a single "hotline" phone number dedicated to both adult and pediatric transfers as well as clinic appointment scheduling.

You will have peace of mind that your patients are receiving the best care. In fact, Ochsner Medical Center's mortality and morbidity rates for the adult population are significantly lower than our regional peer group averages. In 2009, our Expected Complication Rate Index (ECRI) was 0.76 and our Risk Adjusted Mortality Index (RAMI) was 0.54. Our pediatric outcomes are also noteworthy.
Patient care and quality is of paramount importance to us. Our team will do what is best for every patient transferred into our hands.
