NEW ORLEANS - With childhood obesity rates increasing across the nation, one local fitness center is helping children fight fat with fun. Elmwood Fitness Center in Harahan now offers the latest fitness technology designed to get children off the sofa and into physical activity, called XRKade.

Parents are invited to bring their children to a FREE grand opening event on Saturday, August 7 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to experience this new technology in action. The event will be held in Kidsports at Elmwood Fitness Center in Harahan, 1200 South Clearview Parkway, Suite 1200, in Elmwood Plaza Shopping Center.

XRKade is an active gaming system that links video games to exercise equipment to make working out more like playing an intense, interactive video game that allows you to compete with the people around you in real-time.

"With this system, children and adults use their bodies to play engaging, interactive games, kind of like a Wii, but with more physical activity," said Damon Kremer, Director of Operations. "With this system, you're not just riding a stationary bike, you're racing other players up a mountainside. This is the next generation of active gaming, and it's so much fun you hardly remember you're exercising."
