NEW ORLEANS – It has been a busy summer for Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital with the opening of a new Medical Office Building that now conveniently houses all of its specialty practices in one location. The new facility has made it possible to expand Ochsner St. Anne’s services, including the medical practice of cardiology. Ochsner St. Anne is proud to announce the arrival of Dr. Zehra Jaffery, a full-time cardiologist and the only female cardiologist on staff.
With the addition of Dr. Jaffery, Cardiology is now available on a full-time basis at Ochsner St. Anne. In addition to routine office visits, Dr. Jaffery will be offering a full array of cardiovascular imaging and diagnostic services including EKG, Treadmill Stress Testing, Nuclear Stress Testing, and Cardiac Catheterization.
Another area of interest Jaffery is bringing to Raceland is women and heart disease, a topic she says has been overlooked for too long. “Most people think heart disease is a ‘male disease’ but in recent years, women account for nearly 50% of heart disease deaths,” she says. “Because women tend to have different or less obvious signs of heart distress or cardiac stress, it’s something that’s often overlooked until it’s too late.”
Jaffery is already making herself at home at Ochsner St. Anne. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to be part of such a close-knit community.”
Jaffery completed her Internal Medicine training at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI, in 2007. She was then selected to be the Chief Medical Resident of Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Urbana-Champaign, IL, from 2007 – 2008. Jaffery completed her Cardiology training at Ochsner Medical Center in June 2011.
