Three Local Girls join LSU Gymnastics Team to Raise Awareness of Breast Cancer

BATON ROUGE – Ochsner Health System and LSU proudly announce the local winners of the “LSU Gymnast for a Day” contest; three young ladies who will join the Tiger team on Saturday, March 7, 2009 as they host NC State in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge. The winners are:

• Age division 5 to 7 years – Noelle Vona of Denham Springs
• Age division 8 to 10 year – Asia Bethly of Baton Rouge
• Age division 11 to 13 years – Caroline Hollier of Baton Rouge

“As LSU’s official medical provider, Ochsner is proud to be able to offer these lucky ladies the chance of a lifetime; to become an honorary member of the Tiger Team. Each girl will receive an LSU warm up suit, an autographed gym bag and four tickets to the meet,” says Mitch Wasden, CEO of Ochsner Health System Baton Rouge.  In addition, the first 1,000 girls who registered online at http://www.ochsner.org will receive an autographed LSU gymnastics team poster.

The LSU Gymnast for a Day contest is held in conjunction with the Etta James Memorial Meet for Breast Cancer, which is sponsored by the Bradie James Foundation 56/Sole Survivor Fund.  Bradie James is a former member of the LSU Football Team and currently plays for the Dallas Cowboys.

“This event provides yet another venue in which we can raise awareness of breast cancer prevention,” says Jay Brooks, MD, Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge Chief of Staff. “Breast cancer affects thousands of women and their loved ones every year, and since this disease is highly treatable when diagnosed early, we can’t emphasize enough the importance of routine mammograms and self breast exams.”
