Mobile Wellness Trailer at Elmwood Fitness Center Offers Women's Health Education, Bone Mineral Density Testing, Blood Pressure Screenings
NEW ORLEANS - On Tuesday, March 11, from 10:00am-2:00pm, Ochsner Health System and GE Healthcare will create a portable Women's Health Clinic behind Elmwood Fitness Center as part of the GE Women's Health and Wellness Initiative, a national effort to help educate women about important health issues. Services and informational discussions will take place in a custom-designed semi-trailer at the corner of Elmwood Park Blvd and Citrus Avenue across from The Palace Theatre.
"Ochsner's partnership with GE will enable physicians to offer free healthcare advice and provide screenings in an effort to promote healthy behaviors," says Dr. Lisa Bazzett, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist at Ochsner Medical Center. "The importance of regular health screenings, such as the ones offered at this event, can provide early detection of health problems or affirm a good, preventative lifestyle." The GE Women's Health and Wellness Initiative launched in mid-2004 and has traveled over 200,000 miles, and brought free osteoporosis, heart disease and breast cancer screenings and education to more than 50,000 women.
Participants will have the opportunity to view the latest clinical technologies for women's healthcare, such as digital mammography and a 4-D laptop-size fetal monitoring ultrasound unit. Ochsner physicians will utilize state-of-the-art GE technologies to provide free bone density testing and blood pressure screenings. Free services include:
- Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis prevention and bone mineral density testing.
- Heart Health: Learn about cardiovascular disease prevention and the unique facets of women's heart health with blood pressure screenings and pulse measurements.
- Breast Health: Discuss breast self-exams and how mammograms are performed. Visit a "workstation" to view digital mammography clinical images and learn about new breast magnetic resonance technology.
- Pregnancy: Information on prenatal care and examples of 3D/4D fetal ultrasound images.
The following Ochsner physicians will be available throughout the day offering advice and medical information:
- 10:30am: Dr. Ben Crawford - Menopause
- 11:30am: Dr. Jody Morris - Robotic Surgery
- 12:30pm: Dr. Lisa Bazzett - Cervical Cancer Vaccine
- 1:00pm: Dr. Monique Hamilton - Prenatal Care
- 1:30pm: Dr. George Morris, III - Incontinence
"Access to the latest and most advanced diagnostic technology can make all the difference in terms of early detection, more accurate diagnosis and the right treatment plans for many diseases and conditions," said Joe Hogan, President and CEO of GE Healthcare. "This event provides GE with a unique opportunity to give back to our communities."
