Two Local High Schools to Tour Research Exhibits
NEW ORLEANS, LA Ochsner Health System will host its 4th Annual Research Night Tuesday, May 15, 2007. This annual event highlights biomedical research at Ochsner including poster displays of recently published or soon-to-be published clinical research projects. Despite the overall effects of Hurricane Katrina on clinical research in our community, Ochsner didnt miss a beat during or after the disaster and continues to play a leading role in biomedical research, says Dr. William W. Pinsky, Chief Academic Officer at Ochsner. Ochsner was founded on the principles of academics and continues to invest in many research and education activities. Also, today from 12:00pm -2:00pm, the New Orleans Math and Science School and the Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy will tour the Ochsner research exhibits. Each school will pre-select 10-20 students to attend. At Ochsner Research Night, clinicians and scientists will discuss their research projects, and investigators will present recent studies and findings. Additionally, Ochsners academic community outreach and human resources departments will present on career opportunities within the science and healthcare fields. Ochsner Health System operates one of the countrys largest, independently accredited graduate medical education programs, offering training to over 200 interns, residents and fellows in 16 Ochsner-sponsored programs, including jointly-sponsored programs with LSU and Tulane. Additionally, over 60 residents and fellows rotate to Ochsner in various medical disciplines under affiliations with New Orleans medical schools and hospitals.
