Uptown Campus Continues Expansion of Medical Services in Orleans Parish
NEW ORLEANS - Just last year, Ochsner unveiled its two-year revitalization plan for the Uptown campus of Ochsner Baptist Medical Center on Napoleon Avenue. The facility is holding true to its commitment of providing additional medical services to New Orleans by opening a new Urology clinic on the Baptist campus on the 6th floor of the McFarland Building.
"The new clinic will be home to two new urologists, Dr. Satish Karnik and Melissa Montgomery, who will see patients of all ages," says Robert Wolterman, Vice President of Operations for Ochsner Baptist Medical Center. "And current faculty member, Dr. Harold Fuselier, will see patients every Tuesday at this location."
In November 2007, Ochsner Baptist opened a new imaging center offering additional medical services for physicians and their patients in the Uptown neighborhood. The Imaging Center offers the latest state-of-the-art equipment, including a 64-slice CT machine, MRI, Ultrasound, Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine and Echo Cardiology testing. In addition, a Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) has been installed to allow physicians to view patient images in their offices and throughout the hospital, including the operating rooms.
Ochsner has invested over $25 million to help re-open 22 medical/surgical beds, a three-bed intensive care unit, two endoscopy suites and a Women's Imaging Center that provides mammograms and bone mineral density testing. The facility handles virtually all medical and surgical cases, with the exception of trauma, open-heart surgery and neurological cases. Ochsner Baptist currently has 169 community physicians with active privileges at the facility.
"The next phases of our renovations are on schedule," says Wolterman. "Physicians and patients can look forward to the start of renovation of our Clara Wing to include additional in-patient beds and the construction of a Senior Living Center in the former main hospital building."
