BATON ROUGE – Many of us make yearly New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, get organized and improve our lives. Ochsner Baton Rouge is offering a health education program in January to help you achieve at least one of those goals.
Ochsner Dietician Philip Saigeon and Nurse Practitioner Sydney Prescott will discuss the benefits of the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program on Thursday, January 31st at 5:30 pm at Bravo’s Restaurant near the Mall of Louisiana. The seminar entitled Your Last Diet will include information on how the program works as well as how much weight participants can expect to lose. Cost to attend the seminar is $15, which includes dinner. To register for the seminar call 1-866-OCHSNER (1-866-624-7637).
Since implementing the program in 2011, Ochsner’s medical team has helped 93 patients lose 1,724 pounds and 950.1 inches. Ochsner employees have even slimmed down a bit themselves. Ochsner Clinic Supervisor Virginia Thibodeaux, who has shed 74 pounds in nine months, is excited about her success. “This program offers support and guidance that really helps you achieve your goals. Since losing weight my blood pressure has improved, I have more energy and my self esteem has skyrocketed,” she says. Thibodeaux currently has only six pounds left to reach her ideal weight.
Ochsner Internal Medicine physician David Sledge, MD says weight loss such as Thibodeaux’s is not uncommon on the program. “I have seen more successful weight loss with the Ideal Protein Diet Plan than any previous weight loss programs, medically supervised or commercially available. Only bariatric surgery has higher success rates. I have also seen a reduction in the medication use by participants in the program as a result of overall improved health.”
