Ochsner Cardiologist Chosen As Elite Reviewer For 2010 JACC Journals

NEW ORLEANS - Carl "Chip" Lavie, MD, Medical Director, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Preventive Cardiology at the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute, was selected for the fourth time in five years as an Elite Reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) Journals.

This achievement is acknowledged each year at the JACC Editorial Board meeting in April and is given to less than 5% of their reviewers internationally. The award is meant to honor those who work tirelessly in the role of peer reviewer to ensure that the journals meet their primary mission - the timely publication of important new clinical information. In the past year, Dr. Lavie has consistently submitted reviews that were both timely and of high quality thereby providing an invaluable service to the journal and to the scientific community.

In 2009, Dr. Lavie was one of only 14 individuals worldwide to receive the Simon Dack Award, which is the JACC's "Hall of Fame" Reviewer Award.

While the science community recognizes the importance of peer reviews, this task often goes unacknowledged. In fact, an excellent critique can often increase the potential clinical relevance and boost a paper's interest - benefiting researchers, physicians and patients alike.
