Inaugural Central Community 5K Set for February

CENTRAL, LA –  Ochsner invites local runners/walkers to lace up their sneakers for the inaugural Central Community 5k set for Saturday February 23rd.

All proceeds from the event will support the Central High School Cross-Country and Track Teams and the development of a system of running trails in Central.  In conjunction with BREC and other community partners, the goal is to establish running trails throughout existing parks in Central to encourage physical activity and boost the community’s overall health and fitness.  Organizers feel the new Central Community 5K is a great way to kick off this effort and promote healthy activity in the community.

“This race is going to be a wonderful event,” says Adam MacDowell, Head Coach of Central High School Cross Country and Track Teams, and the lead organizer of this event.  “It is a perfect course for advanced runners as well as walkers, and I think that it will be a great addition to our Central community.”

The Ochsner Central Community 5K begins at Central Middle School, 12656 Sullivan Road, then circles around the school and through adjacent neighborhoods.  Day of race registration and shirt pickup begins at 7:30 am and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:30 am.  More information and a link for online registration is available at www.centralcommunity5k.com.
