William W. Pinsky, MD, FAAP
NEW ORLEANS – William W. Pinsky, MD, FAAP, received the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2013 Founder’s Award (Section of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery) at the AAP’s Annual Meeting on October 27. The Founder’s Award recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. Pinsky is executive vice president and chief academic officer at Ochsner Health System. He also is a Professor and Head of the Ochsner Clinical School as part of the University of Queensland.
Before joining Ochsner in 1999, he served as chief of pediatric cardiology at Tulane and Wayne State universities and at the latter he also served as Associate Dean of the medical school. Throughout his career he has mentored numerous students and young faculty members who have gone on to successful academic careers in their own right. Dr. Pinsky sits on the board of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. He is also the founder and president of Racing for Kids, a foundation that uses motorsports to promote the healthcare needs of children and children’s hospitals. Racing for Kids drivers have visited 20,000 children in 700 hospitals and distributed $6.5 million since 1989.
