NEW ORLEANS – Now is the time to get your 2012 seasonal flu vaccine! Ochsner Health System is offering seasonal flu vaccinations for patients and the public at its hospitals and health centers.
Because the flu vaccine is the best method of preventing the flu, it is recommended that everyone over six months of age receive the vaccine. Ochsner physicians offer the following additional tips to help you and your family prevent a bout with the flu:
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue or into the elbow
- Stay home if you are sick
- Get your flu shot!
Flu season can begin as early as October and typically peaks in January and February. Because the vaccine takes approximately two weeks to protect against the flu, getting the vaccine now is a good idea.
Ochsner Community Flu Shot Fairs offer flu shots to the public and will take place in several locations as listed below. At these Flu Shot Fairs, flu shots are only available for persons aged 18+.
