A.C. Alexander Elementary School- Kenner, La.
On Monday, October 29, 2007 at 11:30am at A.C. Alexander Elementary School in Kenner, Dr. James Tebbe, M.D., Vice President of Medical Affairs at Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner and Family Practitioner, will provide a free seminar and lunch to 70 teachers and staff on "Healthy Living."
"By educating our teachers on healthy living initiatives, such as diet, exercise and emotional health, they can pass the knowledge on to students. Children today are plagued with obesity and an alarming diabetes rate. Parents as well as teachers can set a good example for proactive health," says Dr. Tebbe.
Additionally, Ochsner is sponsoring, for all 4th and 5th graders in Jefferson parish public schools, the Healthy Lifestyle Choices (HLC) curriculum. HLC is a six-week program based out of students' P.E. classes and addresses the five youth risk behaviors identified by the CDC as contributing to the leading causes of early disability and death in young adults: (1.) Life Skills, (2.) Conflict Resolution, (3.) Nutrition, (4.) Substance Abuse Prevention, and (5.) Safety and Fitness.
At Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner, Dr. Tebbe is responsible for physician oversight of quality, clinical performance improvement, and case management activity. Dr. Tebbe has worked in Ochsner Family Medicine and served as the Medical Director of Elmwood Fitness Center since 2004. Tebbe is involved regionally and nationally in quality patient care issues.
