KENNER, LA - It's estimated that there are currently 350,000 people in the United States who've been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis with approximately 200 new cases diagnosed each week. Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner is helping support individuals with MS by hosting the annual Bayou Multiple Sclerosis Foundation Health Fair on Saturday, May 10, from 9am - 2pm, at 200 West Esplanade Ave, Kenner.
"We're opening our doors and showing our support for residents in our communities who are affected by this disease," says Dr. Michael Wilensky, Neurologist at OMC-Kenner. "We will touch upon new treatments, lifestyle recommendations and dietary concerns for MS patients."
Specific topics of interest include:
- 10:15am - 10:30am: MS Treatment Update
- 10:30am - 11:00am: MS and Fitness
- 11:00am - 11:45am MS and Wellness
- 1:15pm - 1:40pm MS & Nutrition
- 1:40pm - 2:00pm: Healthy Cooking Demo
In addition to informational seminars, Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner will offer free health screenings including Blood Pressure, Glucose and Cholesterol. Participants can also enjoy a live auction, entertainment by Amy and Brian Brown, and visit vendor booths by EMD Serono, Pfizer, TEVA Neuroscience, Biogen Idec, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, and Infusion Partners. Refreshments will include Cajun lunch items, such as jambalaya, red beans and rice, and po-boy sandwiches.
