Soles4Souls & Our Hearts to Your Soles Charities Provide Free Medical care and Shoes
NEW ORLEANS, LA - On Monday, November 23, at 6:00pm, at a local men's homeless shelter Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp Street, New Orleans, Ochsner will join efforts to distribute new shoes to homeless residents and offer free foot screenings. Ochsner Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Rob Treuting joins national charity Our Hearts to Your Soles and international charity Soles4SoulsTM to provide new boots, socks and medical screenings to New Orleans' homeless. This is the 4th annual national event which is held in 40 sites across the country and impacts over 8,000 homeless men.
Soles4Souls, originally formed to assist with shoe donations to hurricane Katrina victims, is dedicated to improving the health of homeless individuals through the soles of their feet. "Together, these organizations have screened, fitted and provided footwear to thousands of homeless men in our city," explains Treuting. "The health, comfort and well-being of those less fortunate in this country has been and will continue to be a priority for us," says Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. "A pair of durable boots can fill a person with hope and confidence. It's a major step toward employment and building self-esteem." "The problems facing homeless men are daunting and our hope is that by providing medical care, new socks and shoes, we will help get these men one step closer to rejoining mainstream life," says Laura Conti, Our Hearts to Your Soles CEO. Soles4Souls www.giveshoes.org is a Nashville-based non-profit that facilitates the donations of both new and used shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. Since its inception, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 3.5 million pairs (or one pair every 23 seconds) to people in 61 countries.
