Organization Receives Distinction in Meeting Standards
Ochsner Clinic Foundation has earned a three-year accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc (AAHRPP). The accreditation, which is widely considered the gold standard for protection of human participants involved in research, applies to the nearly 300 cutting-edge, clinical research trials being conducted at all Ochsner facilities in southeast Louisiana.
AAHRPP accreditation is granted to those research institutions which demonstrate that their program to protect human participants involved in research meets the safeguards required by the U.S. government. To achieve accreditation status an organization must provide substantial evidence, through policies, procedures, and practices, of their commitment to scientifically and ethically sound research and a process that underscores its continuous improvement.
“We are very proud of this distinction and what it says about the quality and efficiency of our research capabilities,” says William Pinsky, MD, FAAP, FACC, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer - Ochsner Health System. “To not only earn accreditation but to also receive distinction for our efforts is a credit to everyone involved in the human subject research protection program at Ochsner.”
“AAHRPP accreditation provides independent authentication that the human subject research protection program at Ochsner maintains the highest possible standards,” says Sohail Rao, MD, MA, DPhil, System Vice President for Research – Ochsner Health System. “It also provides an assurance of quality, improves efficiency and effectiveness, gives Ochsner and its investigators a competitive edge and reaffirms public trust and confidence.”
“This accreditation is a testament to the dedication and commitment that Ochsner places upon research protections throughout our organization,” says Joseph Breault, MD, ScD, CIP – Chairman of the Ochsner Institutional Review Board. “Just as we strive for excellence in the healthcare we deliver daily to our patients, we strive for excellence in any and all research initiatives.”
