GRETNA, LA - During National Nurses Week (May 6 - May 12), hospitals everywhere will be giving thanks to those in one of the most challenging and demanding careers in medicine. Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank Campus will be awarding and honoring its nurses, both past and present.

On Wednesday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m., members of the Ochsner - West Bank Campus team will honor nurses who have passed away over the last several years by placing "memory stones" in the new Daisy Garden in the courtyard. A member of Pastoral Care will speak and the Ochsner Blue Notes choir will sing while balloons are released in memory of the deceased nurses.

On Thursday, May 12, at 9:00 a.m., Ochsner - West Bank Campus will hold its annual Nursing Excellence Ceremony where 30 nominees, chosen by their peers, patients and doctors will be recognized. The nurses will be surprised by their families as special guests at a delicious brunch before the Nurse Makes a Difference Award is announced. The event will take place in the River Room.

Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank Campus is located at 2500 Belle Chasse Highway in Gretna.

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, which is also National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Each year, Ochsner facilities honor nurses in unique ways throughout the special week.
