NEW ORLEANS – Ochsner Medical Center–West Bank Campus was given the Golden Gift Breastfeeding Award and recertified as a Gift (Guided Infant Feeding Techniques) certified facility through August 2013. The Gift is a quality improvement and certification program for Louisiana birthing facilities based on the best practice model to increase breastfeeding initiation, duration and support.
The award and recertification were presented on behalf of the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition, the Louisiana Perinatal Commission and the Louisiana Office of Public Health – Maternal and Child Health Program. Currently, there are 21 Gift-certified birthing facilities in the state.
In addition, Senator David Heitmeier visited the West Bank hospital’s Mother and Baby Unit on Tuesday, August 2, to officially proclaim OMC-West Bank Campus a participant in World Breastfeeding Week (WBW). WBW is celebrated this year August 1 – 7, 2011 in more than 170 countries worldwide.
