RACELAND, LA - On Wednesday, March 31, 10am - 1:30pm, Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital will host "Spring Into Diabetes Management," a free, community event that will discuss meal planning, showcase a cooking demonstration by Chef John Wright, and offer tips on managing diabetes. To register, call Mae Hitt, at (985) 537-8350. Lunch will be served. The event will take place at Ochsner St. Anne, 4608 Hwy 1 in Raceland, LA.

"Every year 1.6 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with diabetes, and since the 1990's Louisiana has had the highest diabetes death rate in our country," says Mae Hitt, CDE, Community Outreach Director for Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital. "As we've said before, education is the number one way to manage diabetes, and this event will offer many educational resources for local residents," she adds.

Local residents can participate in the following discussions throughout the event:
• Meal Planning and Snacks with Karen Keiser, RD, LDN
• Living with Diabetes Cooking Demo with Chef John Wright. Wright, who currently works for a diabetes supply company, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 13 years old and has mastered the art of cooking healthy with loads of flavor but not the fat and calories. A native New Orleanian, Wright has worked at some of the best restaurants including Emeril's, Bella Luna and Smith & Wollenski's.
• Managing Your Diabetes with Angelique Torres, Nurse Practitioner
