Nov 16, 2010

Dr. Eugene Ramsay discusses the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center. Epilepsy occurs when normal signaling in the brain is not functioning correctly; when that occurs a person can experience a seizure. The Epilepsy Institute at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center set up the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. This inpatient unit can record brain activity and patient behavior to determine if they have epilepsy or another condition. This can greatly benefit patients as it allows for clearer diagnosis and therefore can lead to the proper and correct treatment.

Dr. Ramsay practices at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center. He can be reached at 1-866-624-7637.

Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery

Hysterectomies, which traditionally required a large incision, are now being performed laparoscopically or with the aid of the da Vinci robotic surgery system. Because these minimally invasive options do not require a large incision patients recover faster with less blood loss and risk of complication.
Ochsner OB/GYN Dr. Ralph Dauterive discusses the procedures.
Dr. Dauterive practices at Ochsner Health Center on Summa Avenue and O’Neal Lane and can be reached at 225-761-5239.

Thanks to medical technology, many procedures that traditionally required large incisions are now being offered through minimally invasive or no incision at all. The benefits of these new techniques are shorter recovery times, less blood loss and reduced risk for complications.
Ochsner offers single incision surgery through the belly button for gall bladder removal and incision-less surgery for the treatment of GERD. Dr. Jeansonne explains these new options.
Dr. Jeansonne practices at Ochsner Health Center on Summa Avenue and O’Neal Lane and can be reached at 225-761-5470.
