Indications

Common indications for Kidney transplant include:

  • Advanced Renal Failure (GFR <20 ml/min)
  • End-Stage Renal Disease (defined as irreversible and permanent renal impairment which requires renal replacement therapy to sustain life)

Common indications for Pancreas transplant include:

  • Type I or Type II Diabetes Mellitus

Absolute Contraindications
The list of absolute and relative contraindications for Kidney or Kidney/Pancreas Transplant is continually evolving as our experience with certain pre-existing conditions and diseases grows.  At present, the only absolute contraindications for Kidney or Kidney/Pancreas Transplant appear to be:

  • Body Mass Index >40 for renal transplant or BMI> 30 for pancreas transplant.
  • Active malignancy.
  • Active infection.
