Acute Pain
Service for acute pain is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Ochsner’s Anesthesiology Department uses a multi-modal approach to acute pain management. This means different therapies are used to help control your pain surgery. Some therapies may include:
- Epidurals
- Nerve blocks
- Nerve block catheters
- Patient-controlled narcotics
The department strives to keep its patients comfortable after surgery and have acute pain nurses, residents and anesthesiologists that assist in this mission. It’s a unique approach in that non-narcotic measures are pursued aggressively to help control a patient’s post-operative pain. This enables the patient to have fewer fits of nausea and less sedation with better pain control; overall, a better post-operative surgical experience.
