Brain and Spinal Tumor Program
Neurosurgeons in Ochsner’s Brain and Spinal Tumor Program specialize in the treatment of tumors of the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. The goals of our program are (1) to provide excellent surgical and postoperative care of patients with primary and metastatic tumors of the brain and spine, (2) to provide our patients with the widest array of adjuvant care when surgery alone is not sufficient, and (3) to advance knowledge in the treatment of brain and spinal tumors through clinical and basic science research.

Unique Patient Benefits
The Brain and Spinal Tumor Program at Ochsner Medical Center provides patients with comprehensive multidisciplinary care. The neurosurgeons work closely with oncologists and radiation oncologists to provide patients with the highest standard of care.
We encourage patients with brain or spinal tumors or their caregivers to call us to make an appointment with our surgeons.
We use many of the latest techniques, including speech and motor mapping that have been shown to decrease the morbidity of many surgeries. Note: Suggest replacing highlighted word with a more patient-friendly term. I’m not quite sure what the writer was trying to convey here because I don’t know what speech and motor mapping is.
In addition, many tumors can be treated effectively without open surgery. Radiosurgery, also known as stereotactic radiation therapy (SRS), allows for the noninvasive treatment of benign and malignant conditions, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and some functional disorders. Directed beams of ionizing radiation precisely deliver high-dose radiation to a small field with very little dose delivery to surrounding areas. Radiosurgery allows tumors to be treated in a few visits without injury to normal tissues.
