Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center
The Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center at Ochsner was established to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the detection and treatment of breast cancer. The Center is committed to providing women who experience breast problems with a swift diagnosis in a state-of-the-art facility staffed by a concerned, understanding and compassionate team of breast care specialists.
At the Center, both surgeons and radiologists are involved in the diagnosis of breast cancer. Working in close proximity, their diagnostic abilities are synergistic and efficient, offering together what neither could offer alone.
In addition, a surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist make up each treatment team. Working together, these specialists are able to decide on the treatment course that best meets the needs of each patient.
The Tansey Breast Center also provides the highest quality breast screening services through risk assessment, early cancer evaluation, advanced imaging techniques and biopsy procedures, many of which can be done on an outpatient basis. More than 30,000 screenings and diagnostic mammogram studies are conducted annually, along with 8,000 biopsies.
The Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center at Ochsner Medical Center has again been granted a three year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. The Tansey Breast Center is the only breast cancer program in New Orleans accredited by the NAPBC. To read more about how this accreditation benefits patient care at Ochsner, click here.
Furthermore, the availability of skilled and experienced support personnel has rapidly become a hallmark of the Tansey Breast Center. In concert with other sections at Ochsner, it has become a leader in breast cancer research in the Gulf South and has participated in studies on both the prevention of and the treatment of breast cancer.
Past research in this area has had far-reaching effects on the treatment of breast cancer and patient care – and studies now underway offer the promise of even greater changes in the future.
