1970

On January 9, 1970, Dr. John Ochsner performed the first heart transplant in the Gulf South. John Ochsner

1975

Umbrella Camera Devised at Ochsner, the King-Mills Umbrella Catheter consists of two tiny umbrellas interlocked to close the hole in the heart. In 1975, for the first time in history, Dr. Terry D. King and Dr. Noel L. Mills introduced this device on a human patient, closing a hole in a 17-year-old patient’s heart without surgery. The physicians won the Young Inventors Award for the Cardiology Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

1980

Dr. Christopher White pioneered the use of coronary angioscopy. He wrote the seminal paper using plaque color to asses whether a lesion is de novo or restenotic. coronary angioscopy

1984

World's Fair At the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans, Ochsner provided a 40-foot-high model of the human heart.

1992

Dr. Edward D. Frohlich waschosen by the AmericanHeart Association to producethe journal Hypertension.Dr. Frolich joined Ochsner in1976 as a nationally andinternationally recognized expert in hypertension. Dr. Edward Forhlich

2000

2000th Heart Transplant Ochsner performs its 500th heart transplant.

2005

Andres Rubiano and Dr. Richard Milani receive Computerworld Honors for the in-house developmentof the CVIS Cardiovascular Information System. CVIS

2010

Heart Doctors Dr. Stephen Ramee performs the first percutaneous aortic valve replacement in the Gulf South with team members, Drs. Collins and Parrino.
Unversity of QueenslandThe Ochsner Clinical School is created in partnership with the University of Queensland in Australia
Slice CT Scanner New 320 Slice CT scanner in ED
This newest CT scanner provides the most coverage of any scanner available. The expanded coverage allows Dr. J.P. Reilly and team to image the entire heart as well as perform perfusion imaging of the entire brain. This is critical for ED patients with chest pain or stroke.
PET CT PET SCANNER
Cardiac PET stress testing is the gold standard for noninvasively determining the hemodynamic significance of coronary stenosis and myocardial viability. With cardiac PET, we can obtain absolute quantification of myocardial blood flow and flow reserves, and thus provide the necessary data to determine which patients will benefit from revascularization procedures.

2011

Jazz Benfit Marked the 20th anniversary milestone for the Peripheral Angioplasty and All That Jazz meeting held in New Orleans over the Halloween weekend.
