Brucellosis : About

Brucellosis is an infectious disease caused by contact with animals carrying bacteria called Brucella. Alternative names include rock fever, cyprus fever, undulant fever, Gibraltar fever and Malta fever. Symptoms Brucellosis often begins three to four weeks after infection with signs and symptoms similar to those of the flu:

  • Fever, often rising to 104 F or more in the afternoon. A rising and falling (undulating) fever is one of the hallmarks of the disease
  • Chills
  • Sweats
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Joint, muscle and back pain
  • Headache
