The Ochsner Multi-Organ Transplant Institute accepts most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid. The cost of an organ transplant, including pre-transplant evaluation and post-transplant follow-up care can be very high. Before you are scheduled for a transplant evaluation you will meet with one of Ochsner’s Transplant Financial Counselors to determine what specific coverage you have for transplant. You will be asked to bring the following to your consultation with your Transplant Financial Counselor:
- Current insurance card
- Financial statements, including copies of your last 3 federal tax returns with appropriate attachments
- A recent credit report, if available
Your Financial Counselor will contact your insurance company to obtain details on the benefits available for your transplant. These details include:
- Effective date of insurance coverage
- Deductible amounts
- Co-insurance or other supplements
- Coverage limits for transplant
- Pre-certification requirements, verbally and in writing
- Other information as necessary
The financial clearance process can be time consuming. Your Financial Counselor will notify your Transplant Coordinator when you are financially cleared. At that time, you will be contacted by the transplant team to begin your evaluation. If you do not have enough insurance coverage or have no coverage for transplant, we will assist you in finding possible alternatives. Please contact us for more information.
