Image Caption

Founded in 1989, Ochsner Peritoneal Dialysis Services was one of the first in the United States. The department cares for upwards to 60 patients with a staff of two very experienced nurses, a dietitian and a social worker. Outpatient peritoneoscopic peritoneal dialysis catheter placement is accomplished for peritoneal access in most instances by the nephrology staff. Training in CAPD, CCPD and IPD services is offered using both Baxter and Fresenius equipment.

Transient peritoneal dialysis backup is also offered and 24/7 coverage is always available. A Continuous Quality Improvement Program monitors the rates of peritonitis, exit site infection and other catheter events. Patient participation, full- time rehabilitation and prompt referral to the Renal Transplant Program are encouraged. An exercise bike is available in the waiting room and a regular exercise program (peritoneal exercise program or PEP) is tailored for each patient.
