History

Ochsner Medical Center for Children’s Pediatric Pulmonology Section specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of lung disorders in children. In addition to clinical services, the pulmonologists also engage in educational programs for health care providers, clinical and basic research, and administration of state programs such as SIDS, child death review, cystic fibrosis and childhood asthma. Ochsner Medical Center for Children’s Pediatric Pulmonology Section focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of children with acute and chronic lung diseases such as moderate-severe bronchial asthma, apnea and other sleep disorders, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The section also provides:

  • Consultation and ongoing follow up
  • Inpatient consultations
  • Interpretation of pulmonary function studies
  • Evaluation of special chest imaging procedures (MRI, CT scan)
  • Assistance with management of technology dependent pediatric patients, specifically home cardiorespiratory monitoring, oxygen dependence, permanent tracheotomy and chronic assisted ventilation
